Today they announced a competition at work to name ten new conference rooms … I think it’s part of a scheme to get us to like the fact that a lot of people are going to be moved to the less-sexy location, but that’s neither here nor there. My first four ideas were:

Virii:

  1. Blaster
  2. MyDoom
  3. Bagle
  4. SoBig
  5. Sircam
  6. Code Red
  7. Nimbda
  8. Melissa
  9. Klez
  10. LoveLetter

Design Patterns:

  1. Singleton
  2. Adapter
  3. Factory
  4. Prototype
  5. Proxy
  6. Composite
  7. Builder
  8. Iterator
  9. Facade
  10. Flyweight

NP-Complete Problems

  1. Hamiltonian Cycle
  2. Fifteen Puzzle
  3. Box Packing
  4. Vertex Cover
  5. Independent Set
  6. Graph Coloring
  7. Traveling Salesman
  8. Boolean Satisfiability
  9. Subgraph Isomorphism
  10. Clique Partitioning

Famous Unsolved Math

  1. Goldbach
  2. Riemann
  3. Poincaré
  4. Twin Prime
  5. Collatz
  6. Catalan
  7. Hodge
  8. Swinnerton-Dyer
  9. P=NP
  10. Yang-Mills

The winner gets $50 and a magnum of champagne. While it wouldn’t be ethical to solicit reader’s ideas for such a thing, I’m curious to see what other people might come up with.
