Well, I’ve now been playing with m0n0wall on the net4501 for about two weeks. Unlike the Netgear, I’ve had no serious issues with connectivity, router functionality crashes, or complete router lockups. That said, I’m still comforted in being able to say that cable sucks, as we definitely had an outage on the Optimum Online side last night:
That’s the ping results to news.optonline.net. I have similar charts for latentcontent’s name servers and so forth. There goes five nines, anyhow. Now, a couple of hours on Friday morning isn’t terrible, but it at least confirms for me that it’s not just my old router that sucked, but that cable Internet with cablevision sucks as well.
Anyhow, at the end of the day, I’ve had zero complaints with m0n0wall and the Soekris box. The managed AP should be here in the next couple of days, and we’ll see how that cooperates with the captive portal, but now have high hopes.
Also, still no news on the Kali front. We’ll keep hoping…
Also, congratulations to Sarah!
