I installed rockbox on my iRiver iHP-120 today, so I could play flac files. I’m slowly starting to re-rip all of my CDs to flac for the day when I purchase a SqueezeBox2. I’ve found it thus far to be somewhat stable, and the playback quality of flac files to be sufficient, though movement between said files is much slower than the tiny little vorbis files I’m used to. I think I managed to crash/hang it about four times.
Anyhow, I think this is a really cool project, extending the functionality of a good platform, and making it more usable, in terms of both UI and format support (OH NO, no more WMA! But, thank god, I can play .flac files, or anything else, now!) I could care less about gameboy emulators, jpeg viewers, and document readers, but having a jukebox live up to its potential is pretty cool.
Anyhow, I don’t think I have any sort of skill in embedded device software development, but maybe I’ll try to hack on this one for a bit and see if I can do anything.
