Since leaving my last career, I’ve slowly let go of the habit of getting up at 5, being at work by 6, and being home by 8, so I have enough time to eat before the evening calls started. All told, I think it’s still an improvement.

In any event, my previous lifehack attempt failed to take hold, perhaps because it was too unstructured. Perhaps because I didn’t care. Perhaps this, perhaps that. In any event, in keeping with my new year’s resolutions, I’ve been doing ok with keeping the reading volume up, but that’s an easy one. I need to do something about the dreaded gym, which is currently sucking $150 a month of our cash away without returning any real value to us.

So, it’s time for a new schedule. One that works. Really. I hope. Maybe.

Basically, I’ll get up at 6 every week day. This is less aggressive than getting up at 5:30 like I’d originally planned. The first half hour of my morning is dedicated to waking up with news, email, and scanning the auction house in WoW. At 6:30, espresso machine is warmed up, and I have coffee and breakfast. Till 7:30 is continued news, reading, and free time, 7:30 is shower and prep, and I’m out the door at 8.

Except there’s a twist.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I’m out the door at 8 as well, but instead of going to work, I go to the gym. I work out leisurely until 9:30, go to work, take a shower there (we have private showers), and then start work by 10:00. This has the amazing benefit of allowing me to drive during times when the roads are less busy on both sides of the equation, which avoids the “I don’t want to go to the gym because it will take me an hour to drive there” problem. Then, I just work late those nights, and all is well. My boss is ok with it, so we’ll see what happens.
