The best software engineers I know are regularly depressed, socially anxious, and dissatisfied with their lives. Why is that?
Are the two connected? Is it an inability to take pride in the truly beautiful things we can craft in software? Is it like art, where depression is one of the creators of great art, and an inability to create creates depression?
Even when I read that paragraph, it comes across like nonsense. But there’s something in our industry, I think … a desire for entropy and a tendency for depression.
