I am far from being an expert at the English language. My grammar and diction is average at best. I still haven’t gotten over the incorrect teaching of how to switch between I and me in a sentence.
Still, I have a pet peeve. Please, Internet, learn to use the word penultimate.
Penultimate is a very simple word. It means next to last. That’s all it means. It never means “ultimate” and it never means “awesome” and it never means “best.” It never means “first” and it never means “last.” Next to last. That’s all it means. The fourth of five movements is the penultimate movement. It’s easy.
Update: I am heartened to learn that Daniel Handler’s The Penultimate Peril was written, as it gives a small chance that children of the current generation will grow up knowing how to use this word.
